    IEE is an innovative developer of intelligent sensing systems. Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Luxembourg, the company operates in Europe, the U.S. and Asia. Its sensing systems are dedicated to the following markets: Transportation & Automotive, Public & Commercial Infrastructure, Consumer Electronics, Automation & Logistics and Medical & Healthcare. IEE is a global leader in automotive safety sensing systems for occupant detection and classification with products such as Seat Belt Reminders (SBR) and BodySenseTM.

    IEE first started producing Seat Belt Reminders in Kechnec in 2003, at that time in cooperation with American component manufacturer Molex. In September 2009, IEE established its own SBR production facilities under its Slovakian subsidiary IEE Sensing Slovakia. Since 2007, the company has also been conducting seating and validation tests for Occupant Classification (OCTM) products in their own test lab.

    IEE Sensing Slovakia produces around 7 million SBR sensors annually in Kechnec for car manufacturers such as Daimler, Fiat, Ford, Opel, PSA, Renault and VW. More

    The first important investor in Kechnec was the American company Molex. After demanding preparations, the cornerstone of the new operation unit was laid on May 11, 2000. Its opening ceremony was in 7 months later, in December 15, 2000. The plant in Kechnec is the biggest Molex unit in Europe. It produces more than 1,000 components and parts for the telecommunication, automotive and engineering industry, computer equipment, and electrical engineering products. The Molex plant was one of the first greenfield structures in Slovakia.

    Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Siemens a Flextronics belongs to principal clients of electronic subsystems produced in Molex Slovakia. Senzor systems from Molex Slovakia company purchase IEE / Luxembourg, connector and their parts company produce for Molex in Germany and Ireland. In the future company plans to scale up palette of products besides current production for its stable clients. The projects Nokia Nemo, Nokia Gromit a Western Geco will extend range of electronic production.

    On July 7, 20005 company GETRAG FORD Transmissions was celebrating the ground-breaking of the new production site in the Slovakia.GETRAG FORD Transmissions will be establishing a state-of-the-art production facility in the Industrial Zone of Kechnec for dual clutch transmissions and motorcycle transmissions. Production of our new dual clutch transmissions will start here in mid 2007 and motorcycle transmissions already by the end of 2006. The company will offer around 750 employment opportunities in the region plus those that will be created indirectly as a spin-off of the new site. The company will invest around 300 million Euros in Kechnec and aims to reach an annual turnover of 300 – 400 million EUR.

    GETRAG FORD Transmissions is a 50/50 joint venture of GETRAG a transmissions specialist and Ford Motor Company and a member of the GETRAG Corporate Group. The GETRAG Corporate Group is the largest independent producer of manual transmissions worldwide.     On Friday, May 19, 2006 in the Kechnec Industrial zone the newly built plant of Austrian company Künz was opened. The third plant of the company will produce steel structures for container and special cranes as well as equipment for hydropower plants.

    An investment within the first stage was in the total amount of 6,8 mil. EUR. By the middle of 2007, Kuenz-SK plans to employ app. 90 employees, the majority being welders and locksmiths. The groundbreaking ceremony for the plant was on June 2, 2005.

    From history of the company:
    In 1932, in the town of Hard, Hans Künz established a locksmith shop. The operation since its beginning until today is devoted to construction and production of special cranes. During the period from 1950 to 1970 it was also producing tower construction cranes. In the 1970’s the production was shifted from construction-oriented equipment to hydropower plants. In the 1980’s the company started to produce container cranes. Currently, the Künz Company has a leading position on the Central-European markets and is one of the recognized suppliers of container and special cranes. In the area of cranes for electrolysis and machines for cleaning inflow of hydropower plants the Künz Company has had long run worldwide success. Approximately 80 to 90 % of production is exported. The company is certified in Quality management according to ISO 9001:2000. Besides two plants in Austria (Hard, Groß St. Florian), the company has launched its third plant in Slovakia (The Kechnec Industrial Zone).

    On Januray 26, 2006 the company SWEP signed an agreement today for the construction of a new production unit at Kechnec Industrial Zone. Representing an investment of some €10m ($12m), Phase 1 of the new plant will have more than 100 employees, of whom around 80% will be blue-collar grades. They will join SWEP’s existing workforce of more than 450 worldwide. SWEP has a strong record as an ethical and responsible employer.The company has an excellent industrial and community relations in countries as diverse as Malaysia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.

    On December 15, 2006 the company Schelling Slovakia, a member of the Austrian manufacturer of cut-to-size plants Schelling Anlagenbau GmbH has signed contract for the purchase of the land of 50.000m2; and option of other 40.000m 2;. Austrian investor plans start with building the plant by the years 2006/2007. Since half 2007 Schelling Slovakia in Kechnec will produce mainly components for the product range of Schelling Anlagenbau GmbH and their partners (Alpla, Mawera, etc.). Schelling Slovakia plans to start manufacturing by March 2007.

    In the same time preparation of engineers for design and software control is going to engineer start in Košice. In the new plant the company wants to employ about 30 people by the end of 2007. Investments in the first stage of construction should reach EUR 5 million. Schelling Anlagenbau GmbH is a world-renowned manufacturer of cut-to-size saws and plants for wood – materials as well as plastics, nonferrous metals and circuit board materials. The company was established in 1917 and for more than thirty years is a proven partner for enterprises in trade, commerce and industry.

    In the Industrial zone Kechnec the joint-stock company V.O.D.S. operate the Plant for processing used tyres and rubber able to process 46 000 tons of used tyres per year. The output product is a quality rubber granulate possible to work into the final products – rubber mats, poured surfaces for sport facilities, playgrounds for children or for the industrial sector.
    The plant for processing used tyres and rubber in the Kechnec Zone uses one of the most modern Technologies – the Danish technology ELDAN. The investments into the new operation reached in the first phase 180 mil. SKK, in the second phase is the planned amount of investments 70 mil. SKK. The operation will create in the first phase approximately 40 new jobs. This project is co-financed by the European Union.

    The company V.O.D.S, a.s. Košice was established in the year 1990. It offers to its customers in Slovakia and abroad complex services in the area of waste treatment – waste transport, collection, modification, utilisation, processing and liquidation of other hazardous waste, counselling on environmental issues and rehabilitation of old ecological burdens. Company is the holder of certificates ISO 9001:2000, ISO 14001:1996, BOZP OHSAS 18001:1999, OPNO (Organisation authorised to treat waste) and the certificate nr. 00009/1/2006 for granulate from the rubber of used tyres.

    Plastipak

    Plastipak is one of America's foremost manufacturers and recyclers of plastic containers. Approximately ten years ago, Plastipak also began operations in Brazil. Plastipak made the decision in late 2003 to enter the European market and it will build a facility in the Kechnec industrial zone to house a modern recycling plant that will be able to convert used PET bottles into reusable materials. The Kechnec facility will also produce preforms, which can be converted into plastic bottles. The initial phase of the investment will be about $20 million dollars. In addition to the Kechnec facility, Plastipak has a bottle production plant in Prague and its European headquarters are based in Bratislava, where the company has established a design and research center. Plastipak prides itself on the high quality of its products, its commitment to treating its workforce well, and its record of good relations with the local communities in which its facilities are located.


    MAGNETI MARELLI SLOVAKIA

    The project first started in 2006, when Magneti Marelli Electronic Systems planned to establish a new plant in Slovakia, considering the growing importance of the automotive industry in Slovakia and in Eastern Europe, the strategic location of the country, as well as the tax policy and cost effectiveness. In September 2007 construction started, in June 2008 the plant was ready, and in July 2008 the first production activity started.

    The production focus of the plant will be on instrument clusters for car manufacturers which are Magneti Marelli Electronic Systems clients. Next to manufacturing, calibration and testing of the instruments clusters, an important part of the production program will be the manufacturing of instruments electronic cards which requires high standard of quality and technology. In addition, electronic control units for lighting systems will be produced.

    Magneti Marelli Electronics System state-of-the-art plant, which employs approximately 300 people, is equipped with the latest machinery and fully automatic lines. Manufacturing and work organization will be based on the World Class Manufacturing method of FIAT Group. This method is based on extensive involvement of the team with focus on top quality and competitiveness of the process and final products.

    Magneti Marelli designs and produces advanced systems and components for the automotive industry. With its 67 production facilities (80 production units), 10 R&D centres and 28 application centres in 18 countries, 33,000 employees and a turnover of 5.4 billion Euros in 2008, the group supplies all the leading carmakers in Europe, North and South America and the Far East. Its business areas include: Powertrain, Lighting, Electronic Systems, Suspensions and Shock absorber systems, Exhaust Systems, Aftermarket Parts & Services, Plastic Components and Modules, Motorsport.     CROWN BEVCAN SLOVAKIA, s.r.o.

    Crown Bevcan Slovakia s.r.o. has now purchased a site in Kechnec Industrial Zone and plans to build the first beverage can manufacturing plant in Slovakia. These will be supplied to the beer and soft drinks industry. The Plant will be state-of-the-art with a manufacturing capability of up to 750 million cans per annum.

    Crown Holdings is a US Corporation and is one of the largest packaging companies in the world. They selected Kechnec because of the good infrastructure and as an ideal location for serving its customers in Central Europe.

    The overall investment will be in excess of 40 million Euros and would initially create over 100 jobs, most of them skilled technical roles. Construction is due to begin in early 2009, with the plant moving into commercial production at the beginning of 2010.

    Precision Process Technology


    The Spanish company Precision Process Technology (www.ppt.es), which main manufacturing plant is located close to Barcelona, is a leading supplier of advanced plastic parts to the automotive market. The company in Kechnec plans to manufacture high quality decorative plastic parts for interior of vehicles by covering the entire product development and production processes.
